Kitniyot

Why three oils for Passover, not seven

Soybean, canola, corn and sunflower are kitniyot, which many communities do not use during Passover, so those four oils are certified OU kosher for year-round use only. Olive, walnut and palm oil are not kitniyot and are certified kosher for Passover (OU-P).

  • OU kosher certificate available for every oil
  • OU-P certificate supplied with Passover orders
  • Certificate of analysis on every lot
  • Allergen statement on every order

Walnut oil contains tree nuts. Every walnut oil case is labeled “Contains: tree nuts (walnut).” For a nut-free Passover menu, use palm oil for frying and extra virgin olive oil for dressings.
